CNC Press Brake Buying Guide: Tonnage, Control, Crowning

A press brake is judged on one thing: whether the hundredth part matches the first. Three specifications decide that — tonnage headroom, control sophistication, and crowning.

Tonnage rule of thumb: air-bending mild steel needs roughly 8 tons per meter per millimeter of thickness with a standard V-die. A shop bending 3 mm steel at 2.5 m lengths needs ~60 T of working force; buy 100 T for die flexibility and machine life.

The controller is the productivity multiplier. A Delem DA-53T handles everyday work; the DA-66T adds 3D graphical programming and sequence simulation that cuts setup time dramatically on complex parts.

Crowning compensates the ram and bed deflection that makes long bends open in the middle. On anything over 2.5 m, CNC crowning is not an option — it is the difference between one setup and endless shimming.

LaserForge press brakes span 30 T to 500 T with electro-hydraulic and full-electric servo drives, all pre-configured with tooling matched to your parts list before shipment.
